Lastel Hotel – The Corpse Hotel, Japan

Japanese people surprises every now and then. Around the world, there are hotels reserved only for dogs, and for new divorcees and many other weird things totally unheard of. Now, Japanese people have established a corpse hotel named “Lastel” to offer rooms for the dead.

The decision to make this corpse hotel was due to the problem of overcrowding in crematoriums in the area. Hence, Lastel was founded which is a hotel made specifically to place dead bodies in them. This corpse hotel is located in Japan’s second-largest city called Yokohama.

It is a fact that the death rate in Japan is constantly on the rise.  In 2016, there were an estimated 1,296,000 deaths in Japan. It resulted in a waiting time of four days for the dead body to be placed in a crematorium.

The owner of the hotel, Hisayoshi Teramura told that this hotel offers the loved ones of the dead, an alternative to keeping bodies in their home while waiting for a place. The hotel has refrigerated coffins which are available on rent for 9,000 yen ($106) per day.
