Japanese people are a group providing surprises every now and then. There have been hotels which were reserved only for dogs, and for new divorcees and many other weird things which one would be totally unheard of. Now these Japanese people have developed a hotel for the dead people only.
The decision to make this was due to the fact that there was a problem of over-crowding in crematoriums in the area. Hence, Lastel was made which is a hotel that is made specifically to place dead bodies in them. This corpse hotel is located in the Japan’s second largest city called Yokohama.
It is a fact that the death rate in Japan is constantly on the rise. In 2016, there were an estimated 1,296,000 deaths in Japan. The result therefore is now waiting time of four days for the dead body to be placed in a crematorium.
The owner of the hotel, Hisayoshi Teramura told that this hotel offers the loved ones of the dead, an alternate to keeping bodies in their home while waiting for a place. The hotel has refrigerated coffins which are available on rent for 9,000 yen ($106) per day.
This corpse hotel currently possesses the capacity to accommodate 18 dead bodies and the owner plans to upgrade it if the demand increases. The hotel also possesses an automated storage system which delivers coffins into a viewing room, allowing friends and families to pay their respects to the deceased.
